Renewed Hope. . .
in the youth of America.
in the youth of America.
This is old and we all know Henry Rollins is kind of a blowhard and, as some of the comments point out, it’s not like every piece of music he’s ever done shines with brilliance. However, some of this sounds so sweet to me – especially the U2 – I can’t let it go.
Things to know:
1) I feel guilty for liking this Bolan forgery so much.
2) It’s the “soco, soco, soco. . .” part.
3) They’re not even from Sweden! Atlanta, actually.
4) The singer is prettier and probably half as masculine as Joan Jett, whose look he forged. (Joan Jett did plenty of Bolan forging herself so it all comes full circle.)
Discovered two new-to-me bands recently and I’ll give you these guys first.
Cool song. Excellent cinematography.
I’ll give you one guess as to where they’re from?
Of course, the mecca of consistently great music. Sweden is like musical heaven these days.
Here’s my nominee.
Anyone not completely blown away the first time you heard this as a kid? Made me wanna jump out of my pants.
It’s a really odd rock song (if this copies something else I’m not aware of, please do tell) and one of the oddities is there’s no solo until the very end. The guitar is all riff and thump up to that point.
And what a solo it is – herky-jerky as hell and packed full of what has become cliche Page solo material. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Outfielder Franchy Cordero was recently brought up from the minors for the San Diego Padres. The last guy I knew named Franchy (sort of – no idea if it’s even pronounced the same), was early Misfits guitarist Franche Coma, who plays on the legendary Bullet EP – and other stuff – of course.
And about the fifth youtube comment down is from “J Sickels.” Doubt it’s the same guy but if so, that would be so much baseball fun our heads would explode.
Truth be told, when I bought this single as a 17-year-old I didn’t think music could get much better than this. The early genius of the Misfits still holds up.
So when you see some dumbass little kid poser at the mall today in his Misfits t-shirt, punch him in the stomach for Franche Coma and Franchy Cordero.
Gotta love the pitchers of record from yesterday’s DBacks/Brewers game:
W: Ray (4-3)
L: Davies (5-3)
Seems Dave is a lot more excited to play the solo here than Ray is to sing. Love the completely irrelevant choreographed dancing at the end too. Zany!!!
Have still been thinking about Chuck Berry’s passing and I’m most always thinking about my beloved Hellas. This morning I woke up realizing how this song that knocks about in my head from time to time is little more than souped up “Sweet Little Sixteen.”
And by the way, the righthanded guitarist (not lefty Nikke the singer) died in February.
Another one bites the dust.
Read about these guys in a magazine. I like this song. The Amazon reviews are great. The singer appears charismatic. I’m a sucker for a Flying V. And bluesy-ness.
