There’s a lot about Ted Nugent in that “Detroit Rock City” book I read over the summer and still mean to write up on this site. The mix of bands in the early Detroit scene was crazy – Stooges, MC5, Amboy Dukes, Mitch Ryder, Bob Seger, more I can’t remember at this minute. Then The Romantics even got in there too – more weird.
Best Ted Nugent story is that one time Led Zep was in town and Nugent was at an adjoining hotel. He had a room right across a small alley from Jimmy Page. So Nugent opened up the window, cranked his guitar and yelled – paraphrasing here – “Jimmy Page, you suck! I’m the best fucking guitarist in the world.”
I think Ted Nugent is an asshole and I love Jimmy Page as much as the next guy, but you’ve gotta like that story.
