  1. Great site! Always part of my Sunday routine. A wee quibble though. I rarely see the names of the songwriter(s). In some cases it’s a given, but frequently the performer is singing someone else’s lyrics.
The Feb. 15 is thus. Gwen Mcrae,s song was composed by Sonny Thompson (presumably the Prince associate and not the ’50’s jazz pianist). J. J. Cale certainly is the esteemed author of “After Midnight” but appears to have had a co-write with Bobby Neuwirth ( could be just a publishing/producing deal – like a lot of tunes from back in the day).
What twigged me, and provoked this message, is that Bonnie Raitt’s majestic performance is by a song written by Shirley Eikhard. The too-soon-gone Shirley was one of Canada’s great songwriter/performers. By turns sweet and gentle or raucous belter, she could do it all. On at least one of her recordings she plays all the instruments – not a single lick out of place!
