  1. Always liked Nothing Compares 2 U, which is overwrought as it oughta be, always liked the Tom Jones because he’s my idol, never knew Prince wrote I Feel For You, which is OK but not inspiring, never could stand Manic Monday, which is dippy. I like the bass as part of the rhythm section.

  2. i was a Bangles fan and really liked (and own) the Manic Monday album. Saw Susanna Hoffs solo once in a little club and she was very good.

i didn’t expect Steve to like anything Prince.

  3. Liked much Prince, Lawr. Although I don’t claim to be the world’s biggest Prince fan now, as does everyone else on the planet.

A friend once made me a copy of a Prince album, a Jimi Hendrix album and a Little Richard album and gave them to me on the same day, which proves they all came out at the same time.

  4. top five fave NPG songs, Steve?

    and, syllogism.

i get you are basing it on my getting the two discs the same day, and at least they were both new groups then.

but, if it is ok for KISS to rip off Slade, is a ripoff only ok when you like the music or artist, but not otherwise? cos that is kind of bigoted.

either way, the Keys are hardly a rip of the Stripes, although maybe if everything wasn’t so black (keys) and white (stripes) to you, you would be happier?

  5. This Stripes/Keys shit isn’t something I made up. Let’s start with, uh, Jack White:

“There are kids at school who dress like everybody else,” he said, “because they don’t know what to do, and there are musicians like that, too. I’ll hear TV commercials where the music’s ripping off sounds of mine, to the point I think it’s me. Half the time, it’s the Black Keys. The other half, it’s a sound-alike song because they couldn’t license one of mine. There’s a whole world that’s totally fine with the watered-down version of the original.”

Just google jack white black keys. There’s way more where this came from. And I’m firmly on the Jack White side.

As for Slade/KISS, there’s definitely heavy influence there, but not much outright blatant. Probably more look and stage antics than music. I’m still gonna do that “What Makes This Album Suck” with the first KISS someday. When I get the time. Ha ha. But you don’t put that first KISS album on and think, “Slade!”

As for Prince, I had to look what NPG is, honestly. Yes, I kind of lost interest after the ground-breaking double album. Sorry. Never disrespected Prince, just not generally my cup of tea. I doubt any of the above songs are NPG either though.

And why the hell are we appreciating Prince with a bunch of stupid covers anyway? (Not you, Tom Jones.)
