There are other good Sex Pistols songs, but this one seems to me like the heart of the project. Not exploitive or sensational, not based on obvious rock hooks, but awfully catchy and enduring.
Great song, “Bollocks” Steve Jones bass version. I’ll never get over the fact that Malcolm McClaren told Lydon to write a song called “Submission” about bondage, etc. and ol’ wise ass Johnny came back with a song about a submarine mission. “It’s an octopus rock” is one of my all-time favorite rock blurbs.
I suppose Neil Young kind of already covered this, but the Pistols were the perfect rock band in a lot of ways. One really, really, really good album and then poof!, their reputation never to be watered down by flailing future efforts.
Can you even think of other similar one great effort and done bands? I cannot.

Blind Faith and Germs come to mind.
